Violently Happy

Last night I was listening to some music in the shower.
I always listen to music in the shower.
Ever since I lived with Heather and she taught me what a delight it is.
And I was so sore from running.
Sometimes I get carried away when I am running.
After 3 miles it just starts feeling so good that I don’t stop and then the next day I regret having run for an hour and half.
But the shower is so hot.
And the water pressure is just right.
And with a great soundtrack?
Bliss.
But I digress.
Last night I was listening to Florence and the Machine.
And there is this one song,
The Dog Days Are Over
that always makes me stop and think.
“Happiness hit her like a bullet in the back.”
I love that.
I love the violence of the metaphor.
A bullet is so quick, so sudden, so devastating, and has such a profound impact, not just physically, but on one’s entire life.
You don’t get hit by a bullet and the next day go back to never having been hit by a bullet.
No.
It hits you and you feel it in your entire body.
And the result is lasting.
Now think about it in terms of happiness.
To be hit by happiness so suddenly, so violently, so consumingly.
And in the back?
So unexpectedly.
I like to think that there are a few moments like this in life.
When you find the love of your life.
When you have a baby.
When you look at someone you love with your whole heart.
When you catch a glimpse into eternity and understand who you are and why you are here.

Life is good. Be happy.

Last night, I had a little surprise party for this awesome guy.
It went really well.
He was super surprised.
And I got to spend the evening with my favorite people.
I am so lucky.
Then we went to Danielle’s and had a fire with roasted apples.
Then we came back to my house and watched a movie.
Where I fell asleep.
I think everyone left around 4:00 am.
I was not really awake and just stayed on the couch until a phone call from Will woke me up at 9:00 am.
And then it was pancakes and Conference!
Guys.
Seriously.
Watch it.
Best weekend{s} of the year.
I can’t even begin to describe to you the joy I get from this.
It’s stunningly beautiful and perfect.

Scandocious

Prince Charming and Cinderella {aka Bishop and Wifey}

(Almost all these pictures are for a certain Talana because she doesn’t have a Facebook. Enjoy, lovah.)

So remember this?

Well, Saturday night was the ball. And can I just tell you that it was awesome? I am so so in love with my ward. Here is some documentation and commentary.

All images are courtesy of the amazing Tiffany and our sweet bishop’s wife.

The boys put on their top hats…
…and cowboy hats…

The girls put on their pretty dresses…
And then we danced!
{I don’t know what Jacob’s doing in this one…}

Parker and his ballroom dance partner gave us a lovely performance.

Which we all heartily approved of.

We went to take a portrait with Mike {3-4 ladies, the lucky man!} but it took forever to set up the lights.
Tiff got quite a few of us waiting there.

It was Kinsi’s birthday. A ball in her honor? I think so.

I am constantly amazed by the awesomeness of my friends. You guys rock.

I think that this is an adorable one of Ash. Parker knows how lucky he is, I think.

After the dance, we were still so happy that we had to take more pictures.
{Notice my awesome blue coat?}
I’m pretty sure that Blake and Ashley make this my favorite picture of the night. Ees hot.
The tiara made it’s way around

This is a series by Ashley. She likes to click the camera.

All in all, we agreed with Joey, that it was a success.

Floating Away

I’m having a hard time deciding what I want out of life today.
Most days I know what I want and then I go for it.
Sometimes it’s as simple as a grilled cheese sandwich or a good novel.
On other days I get more complicated and want things like happiness, motivation, and endurance.
Today I had the simple and, while the grilled cheese was yummy, it wasn’t enough.

So on to the complicated.

Today I want my stress to disappear.
It will take a lot of impossible things for this to happen.
So instead, I am going to try to let that all go and simply wish for a balloon.
A hundred balloons to float me high above the city would be preferrable,
but I am more than willing to make do with one red one.

Post edit: Some random person just brought me red balloons.
My life is complete.
